AirPods Pro (2nd generation, Lightning)
An H2 chip doubles the noise cancellation of the original.
Overview
AirPods Pro 2 kept the outline of the original but changed the electronics. The H2 chip powers a new driver and amplifier, giving wider range and clearer detail. Apple said active noise cancellation was up to twice as effective, and Adaptive Transparency softened loud sounds such as sirens while letting speech through.
Swiping along the stem now changes the volume, a long-requested feature. Personalised Spatial Audio can use a TrueDepth scan of the user's ears from an iPhone, and the earbuds last six hours on a charge, with 30 hours when the case is included.
The redesigned case has a lanyard loop, a speaker that sounds Find My alerts and a U1 chip for Precision Finding. This Lightning edition was replaced a year later by a USB-C version with the same internals.
Why it mattered
Introduced the H2 chip and touch volume control, making AirPods Pro the best-selling premium earbuds.
