Apple has pushed an update to Apple Music Classical that gives the dedicated classical-music app a new look, bringing it in line with the redesign of the main Apple Music app, MacRumors and 9to5Mac report.

A monochrome icon

Version 4.1 of the app swaps the previous icon for a black-and-white design. The treble clef that has long identified the app remains, but it is now drawn in shaded black against a white background. According to 9to5Mac, the icon keeps a three-dimensional appearance, with subtle lighting, shading and transparency, which sets it apart from the flatter icon used by the regular Apple Music app.

Blue accents replace red

Inside the app, the interface has been updated as well. Selected tabs, playback buttons and links now use blue accents instead of the red that previously dominated the app. The change mirrors the monochrome visual identity Apple introduced for Apple Music last month, when it moved away from the familiar red branding.

What Apple says

Apple has not described the visual changes in the release notes. They state only that the update contains stability and performance enhancements, according to MacRumors, so the details of the redesign come from observation of the app itself rather than from an Apple announcement.

What the app offers

Apple Music Classical is included with an Apple Music subscription at no additional cost. The app provides search tailored to classical recordings, composer biographies, album booklets, time-synced listening guides and curated stations. Version 4.1 is available now on the App Store for iPhone and iPad and requires iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 or later.

Why it matters

Apple Music Classical is a separate download, and until now it had kept the older red look while the main app changed. Updating it suggests Apple plans to apply the black-and-white identity across its music apps, rather than adopting the more colorful artwork used in its recent Apple Music branding campaign. That reading is an inference from the two apps now matching, not something Apple has confirmed.

An active Apple Music subscription is required to use the classical app. Apple Music costs $11.99 per month in the United States, with a one-month free trial for new subscribers, or can be included in the Apple One bundle, according to 9to5Mac.
