Apple's South Korean web page for the new iPad mini leaves out a detail that appears on its U.S. page: the pair of pinched fingers holding the tablet. MacRumors reports that the U.S. page, along with Apple's pages in most other countries, shows the device held between pinched fingers, while the South Korean version shows the iPad mini on its own.
According to MacRumors, Apple made the same choice for its South Korean iPhone Air page in 2025, where the pinched-fingers imagery was also dropped. The U.S. iPhone Air page still shows it.
The reason, as MacRumors reports it, is cultural. In South Korea, a pinched-fingers gesture or emoji has reportedly been read by some people as a mocking reference to the size of men's genitals. MacRumors does not say who made that report, and Apple has not commented on the matter, so the explanation should be treated as unconfirmed.
The change is a small example of how Apple tailors its regional websites, which otherwise tend to mirror one another closely. The pinched-fingers pose is a common way to show how small and light a device is, and it fits the iPad mini's pitch as a compact tablet.
Apple announced the new iPad mini on October 26, 2026. It has an 8.5-inch OLED display. Pre-orders opened on October 28, and the tablet goes on sale on November 6, according to Apple's announcement.
Apple has not said whether other regional pages differ in similar ways, and it has not explained the South Korean page's imagery. If the company does comment, we will update this story.
