OpenAI has added plugins that let ChatGPT read and act on a user's iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar, according to MacRumors, which reported the launch on October 27.
What ChatGPT can do
On the calendar side, ChatGPT can read, add and change events in the Calendar app on iPhone, as well as in third-party apps that sync through iCloud Calendar. For mail, it can search and read messages, manage messages and drafts, send email and look up iCloud contacts.
The access is limited to iCloud. MacRumors notes that ChatGPT sees only the iCloud Mail account, not other accounts that may be set up in the iOS Mail app, such as Gmail or Outlook.
How it is set up
Mail access requires an Apple-provided address ending in @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com. Users must create an app-specific password for both iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar to connect them. The plugins are reportedly available on all ChatGPT plans, on the web, on desktop and on iOS.
MacRumors also says the same iCloud access can be used by Dots, the proactive AI agent OpenAI introduced in September 2026.
Why it matters
The report frames the plugins as giving ChatGPT some of the same personal-data reach that Apple's own Siri AI has, which widens what the chatbot can do for people who keep their mail and schedule in iCloud. The article does not describe how OpenAI retains or uses the data, and it does not say Apple partnered on or endorsed the integration; Apple's role is limited to providing the iCloud services and domains.
Because the connection relies on app-specific passwords, users stay in control of access from their Apple Account: Apple's account settings let people create such passwords and revoke them if they no longer want a service connected.
Neither Apple nor OpenAI is quoted in the MacRumors report, which attributes the announcement to OpenAI. Cupertino News has not independently tested the plugins, and details such as data handling are best checked in OpenAI's own documentation before connecting an account.
