Apple is reportedly working on a higher-end version of its new HomeView smart display that would add a larger screen and a motorized base, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The details come from his Power On newsletter published on October 18, and Apple has not confirmed any of them.

What the report says

Gurman describes a model that would look much like the HomeView Apple introduced on October 13, but with a screen of roughly 9 inches, up from the 7 inches of the current device. The headline feature would be a robotic arm that lets the display rotate a full 360 degrees rather than just tilting. The product is said to carry the internal code name J595, according to 9to5Mac's summary of the newsletter.

The motor would reportedly serve a practical purpose. Voice recognition would work out who is speaking, and the screen would then turn toward that person. Gurman describes it as a higher-end option that would sit alongside the existing HomeView rather than replace it, and it would not share the current model's $299 price, although no new price has been reported.

Timing and naming

Reports differ slightly on timing. MacRumors says Gurman expects a launch in 2027 or 2028, while 9to5Mac's headline suggests it could arrive as soon as next year. Neither outlet gives a firm date, and Apple often changes release plans well before a product ships.

No name has been settled. Gurman floated placeholders such as HomeView Max, HomeView Ultra and HomeView 360, and 9to5Mac suggested HomeView Pro. MacRumors characterizes all of these as speculative.

Background

A smart display on a moving base is not a new idea in Apple rumors. MacRumors reported in January that Apple's upcoming home hub could include a robotic swiveling base, so this week's claim fits a thread that has been running for months.

For now, Apple's own lineup is the one it announced this month: the HomeView hub, a new Apple TV 4K and a second-generation HomePod mini. Pre-order delivery estimates for HomeView and Apple TV 4K have already slipped into early December, so any follow-up model looks to be a long way off.

As with any single-source report, treat the specs, code name and timing as unconfirmed until Apple says otherwise.
