Apple's iOS 27.2 update brings Multiview, the feature that lets viewers follow several live sports streams on one screen, to the iPhone for the first time, according to MacRumors.

What Multiview does

Multiview lets a viewer watch up to four live streams at once. Until now it was limited to the Apple TV 4K, which supports four streams, and the Vision Pro, which supports five. The iPhone version arrives as part of the iOS 27.2 release that Apple shipped on Monday alongside broader Siri AI language support.

Which sports are covered

The feature applies to live sports included in an Apple TV subscription. MacRumors lists Major League Soccer, Formula 1 in the United States, and the Friday Night Baseball doubleheaders that run during the Major League Baseball season.

Formula 1 appears to get the most flexibility. Viewers can pick a preset team Multiview for a live event, or assemble their own layout from several F1 feeds, such as onboard cameras and track maps. That kind of custom grid is a natural fit for a race weekend, where fans often want to follow a favourite driver's camera while keeping an eye on the wider field.

What is not yet clear

MacRumors' write-up does not say which iPhone models support Multiview, and it does not say whether the feature needs a specific setting to be switched on. Apple has not, in the material cited, described how the layouts adapt to a phone-sized screen, including on the foldable iPhone Duo. Readers who want to try it should check Apple's iOS 27.2 release notes for the full list of requirements.

Why it matters

Apple has spent several years building out live sports in its TV app and the Apple TV subscription, and Multiview has been one of the main ways it differentiates that experience from a single linear broadcast. Bringing it to the iPhone extends the feature to people who watch away from a television, though how well four simultaneous streams work on a small display will only become clear once more people have used it.

iOS 27.2 is available now as a free update through Software Update in Settings. This story is based on reporting by MacRumors; Apple has not been quoted directly here.
