Overview

Apple Vision Pro was the company's first major new product line since Apple Watch. It is a headset that blends digital windows with the real world through high-resolution passthrough video, with no controllers required: eye tracking selects, a pinch confirms, and Siri handles dictation.

Two micro-OLED panels deliver about 23 million pixels in total, and the M2 chip works alongside a custom R1 chip that processes input from twelve cameras, five sensors and six microphones. The result is about 12 milliseconds of delay between the outside world and the picture, which keeps motion comfortable.

The visionOS operating system supports iPad apps, spatial photos and video, immersive environments and a virtual Mac display. External batteries clip to the wearer's pocket, giving roughly two hours of general use. Sales stayed modest because of the price and weight, but it set the technical foundation for later Vision products.

Why it mattered

Started Apple's spatial computing platform and visionOS, even though high price limited sales.
