iPad (10th generation)
The standard iPad finally goes all-screen, in four bold colors.
Overview
The 2022 iPad was the biggest redesign for the entry-level line in years. It adopted the flat-edged aluminum body and slim bezels of the Air, enlarging the screen to 10.9 inches and moving Touch ID to the top button. The overall size barely changed from the 10.2-inch models.
The A14 Bionic chip gave a clear speed boost, USB-C replaced Lightning and the Wi-Fi radio advanced to Wi-Fi 6. Its 12-megapixel front camera was relocated to the long edge, so video calls look natural when the tablet sits horizontally, and the rear camera was upgraded to a 12-megapixel sensor with 4K video.
Major trade-offs were a starting price of $449 and a screen without a laminated, anti-reflective layer. Support was limited to the first-generation Apple Pencil, which needed a USB-C adapter to pair and charge, and a new Magic Keyboard Folio launched at the same time.
Why it mattered
Modernized the mainstream iPad with USB-C, a landscape camera and a colorful new design, at the cost of a higher price.
