iPhone 11 Pro Max
A 6.5-inch Pro with the biggest iPhone battery to that date.
Overview
The iPhone 11 Pro Max was the biggest and longest-lasting iPhone of 2019. Its 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen gave plenty of room for video and reading, and its battery capacity of nearly 4,000 mAh was a record for an iPhone, rated at up to 20 hours of video playback.
Apple built it with the same triple 12-megapixel camera arrangement as the 11 Pro: wide, ultra wide and telephoto lenses. Night mode, Deep Fusion image processing and 4K video at 60 fps with extended dynamic range were all supported, and the new front camera could capture slow-motion video.
The frosted-glass back and surgical stainless steel band gave it a premium feel, and the 18-watt fast charger was in the box. At 226 grams, it was also noticeably heavy. Storage ranged from 64GB to 512GB.
Why it mattered
It combined the biggest screen and the longest battery life of any iPhone up to that point.
