iPhone 13 Pro
ProMotion at 120 Hz and macro photography arrive on the Pro.
Overview
With the 13 Pro, Apple finally brought a variable refresh rate display to the iPhone. ProMotion adjusts between 10 and 120 Hz depending on content, making scrolling smoother and extending battery life when the screen shows still images.
The camera system got its biggest overhaul in years. A new ultra wide lens with autofocus enabled macro photography from as close as 2 centimeters, the telephoto went to 3x, and the main wide lens got a wider f/1.5 aperture with a larger sensor. Night mode worked on all three lenses and ProRes video recording arrived in an iOS 15.1 update.
The A15 Bionic here had a five-core GPU, and storage topped out at a 1TB tier for the first time. Combined with the stainless steel frame and a smaller notch, it was a major step up for the Pro line and marked a new height for iPhone battery life.
Why it mattered
ProMotion and macro shots made the 13 Pro one of the most complete upgrades of the Pro line.
