iPhone 18 Pro
A variable-aperture main camera and the 2nm A20 Pro chip.
Overview
The 18 Pro keeps the plateau design of the 17 Pro but changes much of what is under the glass. The A20 Pro, built on a 2-nanometer process, has a six-core CPU, a seven-core GPU and a pair of 16-core Neural Engines, and Apple says it is up to 40 percent faster in graphics than the A19 Pro. A larger vapor chamber with three times the surface area helps it sustain that speed.
The headline camera feature is the main lens's mechanical aperture. Six laser-cut blades let it open to f/1.48 or close down to f/4 with four selectable steps, giving more control over depth of field and light. The telephoto reaches 4x and 8x crops, the ultra wide is 48 megapixels, and the 18-megapixel Center Stage front camera returns.
The Dynamic Island is smaller and can show up to three Live Activities. Battery life grew to 36 hours of video, and the new Apple C2 modem and N1 chip handle cellular, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. A Burgundy color is new. It starts at $1,199, $100 more than the 17 Pro, with 256GB.
Why it mattered
The variable aperture is the first physical aperture on an iPhone camera.
