iMac (27-inch, 2020)
The last Intel iMac, with a 1080p camera and a nano-texture option.
Overview
The 2020 27-inch iMac was the final Intel design. Comet Lake processors ranged from a six-core Core i5 at 3.1 GHz to a ten-core Core i9, and the base model replaced the Fusion Drive with a 256 GB SSD. Memory could reach 128 GB.
The display received True Tone and an optional nano-texture treatment for reduced glare, and the camera rose to 1080p. A T2 chip handled storage encryption and image processing for the camera, and an optional 10 Gigabit Ethernet port joined the existing four USB-A and two Thunderbolt 3 ports.
The Radeon Pro 5300 with 4 GB of memory was standard on the base model. Apple retired it in March 2022, when the Mac Studio arrived.
Why it mattered
It closed the Intel iMac chapter before the move to Apple silicon.
