iMac 24-inch (M3)
Same colorful slab, now with the 3-nanometer M3 chip.
Overview
The M3 iMac updated the chip but kept the look. The M3 uses a 3-nanometer process, with an 8-core CPU, an 8-core or 10-core GPU that includes hardware ray tracing and mesh shading, and a 16-core Neural Engine. Apple claimed it was about twice as fast as the M1 iMac in several tests.
The seven finishes, the 24-inch 4.5K display, the 1080p camera and the six-speaker audio carried over. Memory could now be configured up to 24 GB, and storage up to 2 TB. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 were new, along with two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports; the more expensive models added two USB 3 ports and Gigabit Ethernet on the power adapter.
It arrived with macOS Sonoma 14.1.
Why it mattered
It kept the iMac current with a single-year chip update and ray-tracing graphics.
