MacBook Pro (14-inch, M3, 2023)
A new entry point to the XDR MacBook Pro, with M3 and 22 hours of battery.
Overview
Announced at the Scary Fast event, the M3 MacBook Pro was the first Mac with a chip built on a three-nanometer process. The M3 had an eight-core CPU and ten-core GPU with hardware ray tracing and Dynamic Caching, and the laptop kept the 14.2-inch mini-LED display with ProMotion from the earlier Pro range.
It replaced the 13-inch Touch Bar model, and starting at 1,599 dollars made the XDR display cheaper than ever. Unlike the Pro and Max versions it had two Thunderbolt ports, though HDMI, SDXC and MagSafe 3 remained.
Battery life of up to 22 hours of video playback was a record for a MacBook Pro, and the base model offered 8 GB of memory, which drew some criticism.
Why it mattered
Made the XDR-display MacBook Pro the affordable entry model and introduced three-nanometer chips to the Mac.
