MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016, Touch Bar)
A lighter 15-inch Pro with a huge trackpad and quad-core power.
Overview
The 15-inch version of the 2016 redesign carried a P3 wide-color Retina display at 2880 by 1800, with a trackpad twice as large as before and the thin butterfly keyboard. Quad-core Intel Core i7 processors at 2.6 GHz and above were paired with a Radeon Pro 450 or higher graphics card.
It measured 15.5 mm thick and weighed 4.02 pounds, a noticeable drop from the earlier model. Thunderbolt 3 replaced all other ports, and the MagSafe connector was gone in favor of USB-C charging.
Updates in 2017 and 2018 brought faster Kaby Lake and six-core Coffee Lake chips, while the 2019 update added eight-core Core i9 options, before the 16-inch model took over.
Why it mattered
Merged high-end performance with a much slimmer chassis and defined the look of the Pro line through 2019.
