MacBook Pro (14-inch, M1 Pro / M1 Max, 2021)
A pro reset with mini-LED, a notch, ports and no Touch Bar.
Overview
The 2021 redesign gave the MacBook Pro a flatter, boxier body, a 14.2-inch mini-LED display with ProMotion, and a notch for the 1080p camera. The Touch Bar was replaced with regular function keys, and a full-height keyboard sat on a black deck.
M1 Pro offered up to ten CPU cores and sixteen GPU cores, while M1 Max doubled the memory bandwidth and went up to 32 GPU cores. Ports returned in force: three Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, an SDXC card slot and MagSafe 3 with fast charging.
Battery life reached 17 hours of video playback, and the six-speaker system and studio mics improved media work. The design introduced the look that the 14 and 16-inch models still share.
Why it mattered
Reset the MacBook Pro with a new design, mini-LED display and the return of useful ports.
