Apple says more than 100,000 apps are now built specifically for the iPhone Duo, roughly two weeks after the foldable went on sale, according to MacRumors.
The figure came in a statement attributed to Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. MacRumors reports that Apple described the count as "well over" 100,000 apps live on the App Store and said thousands more optimized apps arrive every day. The outlet adds that it confirmed the number covers apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later, an interpretation from MacRumors rather than a definition published by Apple.
What optimization means in practice
According to MacRumors, apps compiled with the newer SDK fill the full width of both the inner and outer displays and place vertical controls in the status bar. Apps built with the iOS 26 SDK or earlier run centered on the inner display with black bars on either side, while apps built with the iOS 27 SDK fill most of the inner screen but avoid the status bar on the right edge.
Apple's developer guidance, as relayed in the report, says apps that use standard SwiftUI and UIKit components adapt automatically, and that new APIs cover the device's different layouts and poses. The statement also says thousands of developers have attended in-person workshops in 19 cities over the past month.
Who is on board, and who is not
MacRumors lists recent additions that include Microsoft Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint and Word, along with Etsy, Goodnotes, Halide Mark III, NBA, NHL and Zoom. Other optimized titles named in the report include Amazon Prime Video, Fantastical, Flighty, Instagram, MLB, Netflix, SmartGym, WhatsApp and YouTube.
The report also compiles examples of well-known apps that have not yet been updated, among them Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Microsoft Teams, PayPal, Venmo, Uber Eats, DoorDash, Starbucks and several airline and banking apps. MacRumors characterizes the overall picture as a mixed bag that is improving quickly, and notes that some users on social media consider the issue overblown.
Separately, the report notes that iOS 27.2 added Apple Pencil (USB-C) support on the iPhone Duo, with apps such as Procreate Pocket, Apple Notes and Preview among those named as using it.
The 100,000 figure is Apple's own, and the company has not published a breakdown of how many of the most-downloaded apps are included. For now, whether a given app looks right on the Duo depends on whether its developer has rebuilt it with a recent SDK.
