Apple has published a showcase of third-party apps and games tuned for the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, ahead of the device's on-sale date this Friday, October 23. According to the company's newsroom post, more than 50 apps are already optimized or will be soon, and apps that qualify will carry a "Made for iPhone Duo" badge on their App Store product pages.

What Apple says is coming

Apple says the inner display is 50 percent larger than the one on the iPhone 18 Pro Max and that both screens share the same aspect ratio, so apps can move from the outer display to the inner one and scale proportionally. Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, said the developer response has been strong and that many more app experiences will follow after launch.

In entertainment, Netflix lets members browse Clips on the outer display and keep watching on the inner screen. Prime Video uses the half-folded posture to play video on the upper half while X-Ray cast details appear below, and Paramount+ adds richer playback controls. MLB and PGA Tour show live action alongside real-time stats, and Apple says MLB's app is ready in time for the World Series.

For productivity, Apple highlights Split View, which it says lets users run two apps side by side on an iPhone for the first time. Zoom, Slack, Fantastical, Notewise, Things and Bear are among the named apps. Microsoft Word and Outlook are expected to receive a "desktop-class" layout in the coming weeks.

Creative apps include Instagram and its Edits app, VLLO, and Detail, which Apple says uses the new Core AI framework to run AI models on the device. On the gaming side, Apple points to Asphalt Legends, Zenless Zone Zero and UnGodly, and to Apple Arcade titles Sneaky Sasquatch and Retrocade. The company credits the A20 Pro chip and a custom vapor chamber with up to 35 percent better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro.

The "Made for iPhone Duo" badge

MacRumors reports that developers must build with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later to qualify for the badge. Per that report, apps built with the iOS 27 SDK fill most of the inner display but leave the status bar area on the right edge clear, while apps built with the iOS 26 SDK or earlier still run but appear centered with wide empty margins on either side.

Apple says new editorial collections for iPhone Duo apps and games will go live on the App Store on Friday, with further app updates rolling out through the year. Developers can find preparation guidance on Apple's developer site.
