The iPhone Duo includes a software feature called Edge Light, according to a MacRumors report published October 21. The setting works like a virtual ring light during video calls, brightening the borders of the screen so that light falls evenly on the user's face in dim conditions.

MacRumors says the option appears in apps such as FaceTime, which is the only app it names. The outlet credits Miles Franklin, who pointed out the feature on X. The report does not say how Franklin spotted it, and it does not include any statement from Apple about how Edge Light behaves on the new device.

A feature carried over from the Mac

Edge Light is not new to Apple's lineup. MacRumors notes that it first appeared on Apple silicon Macs last year, arriving with macOS Tahoe 26.2 in November 2025. On a Mac, the idea is the same: the display itself becomes the light source, so the person on the call does not need a separate lamp or desk accessory.

Bringing it to a phone fits a device whose design puts a lot of emphasis on the display. The iPhone Duo's screen is large when unfolded, which gives a feature like this more surface to work with than a typical phone panel would offer. Whether that makes a visible difference in practice is not something the report tests, and Cupertino News has not evaluated it either.

What is still unclear

Several details remain open. The report does not say whether Edge Light is limited to FaceTime or extends to third-party video-calling apps, nor whether it works on both the inner and outer displays of the iPhone Duo. It also does not say if the control is available to other iPhone models. Apple has not published documentation on the feature that the report cites.

The discovery comes as reviewers continue to examine the iPhone Duo ahead of its general availability on October 23. Reviews so far have covered the hinge, the under-display camera, Touch ID and heat, and small software touches like this one are surfacing as more people spend time with the device.

For now, Edge Light looks like another example of Apple reusing a software idea across product lines, with the Mac version serving as the template for the new foldable.
