A new leak out of China suggests the standard iPhone 18 will get a bigger battery, though the same source says the phone could also cost more. MacRumors reported the claims on Tuesday, citing a post on Weibo by the leaker known as Digital Chat Station. None of this has been confirmed by Apple.
What the leaker says
According to the post, the iPhone 18 will carry a larger battery than its predecessor. No capacity was given. For reference, the iPhone 17 uses a 3,692 mAh cell. The leaker also described a 6.3-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, an unchanged Dynamic Island and Face ID setup, an A20 chip built on a 2-nanometer process like the A20 Pro, and a dual rear camera system with 48-megapixel sensors.
MacRumors noted that the iPhone 18 Pro models with a physical SIM tray are rumored to have 4,056 mAh and 5,391 mAh batteries. That would be roughly 1.7 percent and 11.8 percent larger than the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max respectively, according to the outlet.
A possible price increase
The leaker speculated that the iPhone 18 could be more expensive. The post does not make clear whether any increase would be measured against the iPhone 17's launch price or its current one, nor whether it would apply in the United States. MacRumors points out that Apple raised the iPhone 17's U.S. starting price from $799 to $899 in September 2026, so the baseline is itself a moving target.
Timing
Digital Chat Station expects the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 to launch together in the first half of 2027, with the standard iPhone 18 predicted to be the best seller of the three. MacRumors says that timing lines up with other rumors it has covered. Earlier this month, the same leaker said the iPhone 18e would keep a 60Hz display, and a separate leaker, Fixed Focus Digital, claimed in October that standard iPhone 18 production would begin in late November.
What to keep in mind
Leaks from Weibo accounts can be hit or miss, and the battery and pricing claims here are vague. Apple typically announces specifications and pricing only at launch, and nothing about the iPhone 18 lineup is official. We will update this story if more detailed reporting emerges.
