iPhone 15 Pro
Titanium, the A17 Pro chip and the Action button.
Overview
Apple's first titanium iPhone was lighter than the stainless steel model it replaced, at 187 grams, and also had thinner borders around its display. The titanium band was brushed and framed a frosted glass back in four finishes: natural, blue, white and black.
The A17 Pro chip was the first 3-nanometer chip in a phone. Its redesigned GPU added hardware-accelerated ray tracing and hardware support for AV1 video, and Apple demonstrated console-class games running on it. Memory was increased to 8GB, which also helped on-device features.
The Action button replaced the ring-silent switch with a programmable button that could launch the camera, a shortcut or a focus mode. The USB-C port used USB 3 speeds up to 10 Gb/s and could record ProRes video directly to external drives. Video was a major focus: Log encoding and spatial video recording were added in later updates.
Why it mattered
It brought titanium and a customizable Action button to the iPhone and began the 3nm chip era.
