Apple has confirmed that the iPhone Duo will be on sale in its stores when it launches on Friday, October 23. What it has not said is how many units each store will actually have, and a new warning from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggests customers who line up without an order may go home empty-handed.
What Apple has and has not said
According to a report from The Apple Post, Apple has told customers they can shop for the foldable in stores, but it has not promised that every location will offer the phone for walk-in purchase. The company has also not published per-store inventory figures or said whether buyers without a reservation will be served at every store.
Gurman raised the concern on X, writing that Apple has given no indication of how much stock will be available on day one and that people could wait in line only to find nothing to buy. He has previously said he believes Apple launched the device earlier than its supply could support, and that a more comfortable level of inventory may not arrive until November at the earliest. That is Gurman's own assessment rather than something Apple has confirmed.
Supply was already tight
The warning fits what pre-orders have shown so far. Launch-day delivery slots for the iPhone Duo sold out in under 15 minutes after orders opened on October 16, and new online orders have since slipped well into next year. Earlier reports also said production problems nearly pushed the launch back toward the end of November.
Apple is, meanwhile, preparing large demonstration areas in select stores. As The Apple Post notes, demo units are separate from the stock held for sale, so a busy display table does not indicate that phones are available to take home.
What buyers can do
Anyone hoping to pick one up on launch day has a few practical options, based on the guidance in the report:
- Check Apple's website or the Apple Store app for pickup availability at nearby stores before leaving home.
- Treat a pre-order with a confirmed delivery or pickup date as the most reliable route.
- Expect availability to change quickly, since Apple has not committed to any figure.
Apple has not commented on the Gurman post, and the company typically does not disclose launch-day inventory. Cupertino News will update this story if Apple clarifies its in-store plans ahead of October 23.
