Lining up for iPhone Duo on October 23? Apple hasn't promised walk-in stock

NewsOct 17, 2026 at 1:14 PM

Apple has confirmed that the iPhone Duo will be on sale in its stores when it launches on Friday, October 23. What it has not said is how many units each store will actually have, and a new warning from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggests customers who line up without an order may go home empty-handed.

According to a report from The Apple Post, Apple has told customers they can shop for the foldable in stores, but it has not promised that every location will offer the phone for walk-in purchase. The company has also not published per-store inventory figures or said whether buyers without a reservation will be served at every store.

2001. Apple opened its first two retail stores on May 19, 2001, at Tysons Corner, Virginia, and in Glendale, California. Many commentators predicted they would struggle. The stores were designed around hands-on use, with products on open tables rather than behind glass.

2001 to 2002. The Genius Bar, an in-store support counter, became a signature feature. Apple expanded steadily across the U.S.

2003. The first store outside the U.S. opened in Tokyo's Ginza district. London's Regent Street flagship followed in 2004.

2006. The glass cube entrance on Fifth Avenue in New York opened on May 19, 2006, and quickly became a landmark. It operates around the clock.
