Apple has started rolling out the Creator Studio updates it announced late last month, and Logic Pro is the first app to receive them, according to MacRumors. The standalone Logic Pro for Mac moves to version 13.0, while the Creator Studio edition of the app is updated at the same time.

What is new in Logic Pro 13.0

The headline change is a Unified Browser that brings loops, one-shots, instrument and effect patches, and plug-in presets into a single place. Custom and third-party sounds are tagged automatically, and users can filter by tag, search in plain language with phrases such as "atmospheric pad," and look for samples similar to one they already like. Licensed Splice sounds appear in the browser, and any folder on the Mac can be added as a source.

The Stem Splitter has also been extended. It can now divide a drum stem into kick, snare, hi-hat, toms, cymbals and other percussion, allowing the drum mix to be rebalanced without the original multitrack files.

Logic also adopts the Liquid Glass look, with translucent surfaces and stronger contrast across menus, toolbars and windows. An iPad can act as a Multi-Touch controller for Logic on the Mac through Sidecar, covering Live Loops cells, Step Sequencer patterns, instruments and several mixer channels at once.

A resizable Play Surface adds drum and chord pads that can be played from the typing keyboard or an iPad, plus a keyboard with velocity, modulation and polyphonic pitch glide controls and a note repeat function. Chord pads follow the Chord track in real time. The Step Sequencer gains multi-select, so users can drag or Shift-click a range of steps and edit velocity or other parameters in bulk, copy and paste step groups, and use key commands to invert a selection or nudge steps.

Creator Studio edition and what comes next

The release notes for the Creator Studio version of Logic Pro mention an AI-powered Intelligent Assistant that builds beats from natural-language requests. MacRumors also understands that Pixelmator Pro will be updated today, though that has not been confirmed, and it reports that more apps in the suite are expected to follow throughout November without naming specific titles or dates.

Apple's earlier announcement said the update brings new features and tools across Mac, iPad and iPhone, including built-in MotionVFX content in Final Cut Pro for Mac. MacStories editor John Voorhees spent a week testing the updated apps and published a closer look at the release. Neither MacRumors nor the pages cited mention new pricing.
