Apple's new Logic Pro 13.0 for Mac ships with an AI-powered feature that buyers of the standalone app will not get, according to MacRumors, which read Apple's release notes for the update.

The feature in question is the Intelligent Assistant, a beta tool Apple describes as a way to help creators navigate production workflows, start a new song, set up a vocal track from a single prompt, or refine a project that is already underway. Apple's fine print says the assistant requires an Apple Creator Studio subscription, a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 27 or later.

Creator Studio costs $12.99 per month or $129 per year. Logic Pro itself is also sold as a one-time purchase at $199.99, and MacRumors notes that the release notes for that version make no mention of the Intelligent Assistant. In practical terms, people who paid once for Logic Pro appear to be left out of the headline addition in this release.

MacRumors points out that the subscription requirement was not stated in Apple's announcement of the feature last month. That earlier description said the assistant requires macOS 27 Golden Gate or later on an Apple Intelligence-capable Mac and is available in U.S. English only. The subscription condition surfaced only in the full release notes published with the update.

The report suggests a likely reason for the gating: the assistant appears to lean on cloud AI models. In a support document, Apple says the feature will have monthly usage limits, with expanded usage available for an additional fee. Apple also says the Intelligent Assistant is powered by a combination of models built by Apple and models from third parties, though the support material cited by MacRumors does not name them.

The change lands as Apple begins rolling out updates across its Creator Studio bundle. The pattern of tying newer capabilities to a subscription has drawn criticism from some Apple customers, and MacRumors expects the Logic Pro limitation to disappoint users who prefer to buy software outright.

For now, Apple has not said whether the Intelligent Assistant will ever come to the one-time-purchase version of Logic Pro. Anyone who relies on the app should check the release notes for their own edition before updating or subscribing, since the two versions no longer list the same features.

Apple's Logic Pro release notes and the Creator Studio details are available on its support pages.
