Mac mini (M2, 2023)
M2 for $599, or M2 Pro for serious work.
Overview
In January 2023 the Mac mini line split into two tiers. The $599 model used the Apple M2 chip with an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, 8 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage. The $1,299 model used the M2 Pro, with a 10-core CPU (up to 12), a 16-core GPU (up to 19) and 16 GB of memory.
Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 were new. The M2 version had two Thunderbolt 4 ports and two USB-A ports; the Pro added two more Thunderbolt 4 ports and HDMI 2.1 for up to three displays. Both had Gigabit Ethernet with an option for 10 Gigabit.
The case was still the 7.75-inch aluminum square of earlier models.
Why it mattered
It created the Pro tier of the Mac mini and kept the entry model at $599.
