iPad Pro 10.5-inch
ProMotion arrives, filling a larger screen into the same body.
Overview
The 10.5-inch iPad Pro grew the screen by about 20 percent while making the overall footprint only slightly larger than the 9.7-inch it replaced. Narrow bezels allowed this, and iOS 11's drag-and-drop and Dock interface soon followed to make good use of the space.
The headline display feature was ProMotion: the panel refreshed at up to 120 Hz, adapting to content, so Apple Pencil latency dropped to a fraction of what it had been. Brightness reached 600 nits and the color gamut matched P3, with True Tone and an anti-reflective coating as before.
The A10X Fusion chip combined three performance and three efficiency cores with a 12-core graphics unit, and a 12-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization joined a 7-megapixel front camera. Storage began at 64 GB, up from 32 GB.
Why it mattered
First iPad with 120 Hz ProMotion, a feature that later became standard across the Pro line.
