iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd generation)
Dual cameras and a LiDAR scanner join the Pro.
Overview
The second-generation 11-inch iPad Pro kept the body, display and Face ID of the 2018 model, so the changes lay in the rear camera and the chip. A 10-megapixel ultra wide lens joined the 12-megapixel wide camera, and next to them sat a LiDAR scanner capable of measuring depth up to five meters away, which made augmented reality placement faster and more accurate.
The A12Z Bionic enabled an eighth GPU core compared with the A12X. All models received 6 GB of memory and storage started at 128 GB. Five studio-quality microphones improved recording and calls.
A few weeks after the launch Apple introduced the Magic Keyboard for iPad, a cantilevered case with a backlit keyboard and a trackpad, and iPadOS 13.4 added full cursor support. Together these moves made the Pro a credible laptop replacement for many users.
Why it mattered
Introduced LiDAR to Apple devices and, with the Magic Keyboard, brought pointer and trackpad input to iPad.
