iPad Pro 11-inch (M4)
Impossibly thin, with a tandem OLED display and the first M4 chip.
Overview
The M4 iPad Pro was the thinnest Apple product ever made when it launched. At 5.3 mm, it was slimmer than the iPod nano, and the 11-inch version weighs under 450 grams. Apple achieved this by moving to OLED, using two stacked emissive layers to reach brightness levels that single-layer OLED panels could not.
The result was the Ultra Retina XDR display, with 1,000 nits full-screen brightness, up to 1,600 nits for HDR, and a million-to-one contrast. The M4 chip was the first of its generation, fabricated on a second-generation 3-nanometer process, and the first to appear in an iPad before a Mac.
Apple Pencil Pro and a new Magic Keyboard with a metal palm rest, function row and larger trackpad accompanied it. The rear camera was reduced to a single 12-megapixel lens, and the front camera moved to the long edge with a landscape orientation. A nano-texture glass option was added on 1 TB and 2 TB models.
Why it mattered
The first OLED iPad and the first Apple device to ship with the M4 chip, redefining how thin a tablet could be.
